Dear Reader,

After 15 weeks of writing, illustrating, designing, and photographing, we present the Frank XII issue to you.

With introspection being our biggest tool, we covered varying topics, some lighter than others, and attempted to find a balance when writing pieces inspired by our rage and the things that bring us comfort.

Throughout the process, we found that our team has a lot of shared experiences when it comes to societal and cultural issues. We found natural chemistry and were able to bounce off of and learn from one another in ways we didn’t expect. With effective discourse with one another in the process, we found a lot of common ground on the things we are both perturbed and motivated by. Conveniently, we all seemed to have similar visions of what we wanted the issue to look and feel like.

When diving deeper into our articles, we relied heavily on the unique perspectives of our subjects to articulate our ideas, a lot of which took our curiosity even further. A few of the articles focus on how women are perceived in our culture and the ramifications of that. Looking at gender inequality through the lenses of an all-women team and interviewing various female subjects allowed us to describe the same problems we’ve always had, but with new language.

While a lot of our motivation came from desiring change, many of our stories acknowledge how people may cope with the world now, whether it be through art, food or music, etc. As you read, listen, and look, we hope you find a sense of comfort…or fury.

Sincerely,

Frank XII
